Last night is the last night of 2006.
I went to city to watch the magnificent fireworks. It was a New Year gift for me myself.
Federation Square was the mountains and oceans consisted of the crowd. People were singing, dancing, talking and screaming, just like throbs of blusters. Josh Owen Band’s turbulent music of guitar rushed around the whole square. He roared, “You are with us! You are with us!...” At that moment I thought of the song “So close, so far” sang by Leslie Cheung. It says, “0:00, 2000. The crowds in New York Times Square in the TV live broadcast. Did I see you there?” Did you see me there? Be silent in the uproar, dipping out warm gaiety from the crowd.
After the family fireworks at 9:15, I met with classmates and their friends.
The midnight firework was even greater than the family show. Yu’s delight shrieks infected me. We blew the long-tongue whistles brought by Yu at the last moment. (She often has such creative good ideas!) “Happy New Year!” someone shouted.
When the gigantic glowing flowers opened on the dark black velvet, and then thousands of sparkling stars fell down, I felt like numberless happiness falling down towards me, towards us.
A little bit pity was that there was no dream seed shower of lights descending from the balloons suspended above Federation Square after the midnight show as before.
On my way to the tram stop, a hand put towards me. It came from a boy sitting on the bars: “Happy New Year!” “Happy New Year!” I gave him a cheerful pat.
Happy New Year, everyone!
